This is the sixth edition of “Panama Now”, published by Focus Publications (Int), S.A. at intervals since the 1980’s. It is to some extent a yearbook inasmuch as its chapters reflect the current status of various sectors of business, the economy, and the affairs and progress of the country. In this sense, it is a reference book and also provides a historical point of reference.
This edition, published at the end of 2008, comes at a time of change for the Republic of Panama; a time when the economy is surging forward not only with impetus of the enlargement of the Canal but with activity in many fields including real estate, construction, tourism and cargo logistics as the port expansion allows the country to fully realize the potential conferred upon it by its unique geographical position. It is an exciting time to chronicle.
